- [Activity Report] "Learn about Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)! Video Contest" supported by AMR Alliance Japan (November 17, 2024)
AMR Alliance Japan (Secretariat: Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI)) supported the “Learn about Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)! Video Contest” (co-hosted by the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association and the Yomiuri Shimbun) on the theme of antimicrobial resistance.
This contest aimed to engage young people in learning about the urgent global issue of antimicrobial resistance through video production while promoting awareness and understanding. The contest was open to junior high and high school students nationwide and individuals under 29. Numerous submissions were received, and six winning works were selected after rigorous screening.
The National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) (2023-2027) states in Goal 1, ” Improve Public Awareness and Understanding, and Promote Education and Training of Professionals,” addressing the importance of promoting public awareness and education activities regarding the knowledge and understanding of AMR. Particularly, targeted outreach for specific groups, such as children and their guardians and the elderly, who are often prescribed antimicrobials, will remain of high importance. Moreover, it mentions the need for incorporating infectious disease control and the appropriate use of medicines as part of health education at schools, especially for junior and senior high school students.
